Things You Can Crochet in Less Than One Hour

Before I started my craft fairs and markets, I didn’t really give any thought to how long things would take me to crochet. I just made what I wanted and let it take as long as it took. But as soon as I started having to price things, I quickly realised that those things that took me a few days to make were not good things to try to sell at a craft fair. You might get lucky and find someone who really values your work and is willing to pay you fairly for it but unfortunately most people who don’t crochet don’t realise how long things can take.

My time is very precious at the moment, with two young children to look after, another on the way, aswell as a house and a husband to look after. I had to build my craft fair inventory with things that I could make in less than one hour to make sure I could actually sustain my business and be paid fairly for my time. I spent a while looking through my patterns and trying to come up with quicker ways to make things, and wrote a few new patterns perfect for selling at craft fairs and markets and I wanted to share my findings. All of the projects below take me less than one hour to make so are perfect for selling or for last minute gifting.

Crochet Brimmed Beanie (Free Crochet Pattern)

I have made so many of these cute brimmed beanies for my family, to sell in my markets and to give away as gifts. They make up so quickly and are so cosy and cute, especially with a little fluffy pompom. The full PDF pattern has instructions for five sizes to fit from newborn to adult and is now available on my Etsy shop, but I wanted to share the 1-5 year size here aswell.

To make your own, you will need about 50g chunky or bulky yarn, an 8mm crochet hook, some scissors and a yarn needle.

1-5y (to fit up to approximately 20” head circumference)

Finished measurements (unstretched): 9” height, 16.5” width

With an 8mm crochet hook and chunky yarn –

  • 1. ch28, work dc in 3rd ch from hook and next 21chs, hdc in next 2chs, sc in last 2chs (26)
  • 2. ch1, turn, working in bklps only, work sc in same st and next st, hdc in next 2sts, dc in next 22sts (26)
  • 3. ch2, turn, working in bklps only, work dc in same st and next 21sts, hdc in next 2sts, sc in last 2sts (26)
  • 4-20. repeat rows 2-3, ending on a row 2 (26)
  • 21. fold right sides together, ch1 and slip stitch together down the short edges to form a tube then bind off, leaving a long tail to close the opening
  • 22. weave the long tail in and out of the top stitches then pull tight and secure well to close

FINISHING:

To finish your beanie, make sure all of your ends are weaved in and attach a pom pom to the top. Fold the bottom edge up to the desired length. Well done! Your brimmed beanie is finished.

I hope you enjoy this crochet pattern. I would love to see if you make one so please feel free to share your pictures in my Facebook group, or tag me on social media (@adeleuyancrochet) so I can see. The full pattern can be found in my Etsy shop.

Twisted Headband Earwarmer (Free Crochet Pattern)

I love making headband earwarmers to keep our ears nice and cozy when winter starts to hit and the temperature drops. The Twisted Headband Earwarmer is so easy and quick to make but looks harder than it is because of the twist in the top. The full PDF pattern has instructions for five sizes to fit from newborn to adult and is now available on my Etsy shop, but I wanted to share the teen to adult size here aswell.

To make your own, you will need about 25g double knit (light worsted) yarn, an 8mm crochet hook, some scissors and a yarn needle. I used two strands of the double knit yarn held together throughout the pattern but you could substitute for chunky yarn if you prefer.

Teen-Adult (to fit a head circumference of approx 22-23”)

  • 1. Ch10, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across to end (8)
  • 2-26. Ch2, turn, dc in st at base of ch and in each st across to end (8)
  • 27. Bind off, leaving a long enough tail to stitch the two short edges together
  • FINISHING: Fold the two short edges in half then layer together (as shown in the video above) and stitch closed, bind off then make sure all of your ends are weaved in

I hope you enjoy this crochet pattern. I would love to see if you make one so please feel free to share your pictures in my Facebook group, or tag me on social media (@adeleuyancrochet) so I can see. The full pattern can be found in my Etsy shop.

Crochet Pumpkin (Free Pattern)

Is there anything more autumn than a cute little crochet pumpkin.

I am really enjoying the colder weather after all the heatwaves we’ve had this summer and looking forward to all of the cosy autumn and winter crochet! With that in mind, I decided to make a pumpkin for our house and I love it!

To make your own crochet pumpkin, you will need double knit yarn, a 6mm crochet hook, a pair of scissors, some stuffing, a cinnamon stick and a yarn needle. The pumpkin is approximately 4” wide and 3″ tall. The pattern is written using American terminology and is suitable for beginners.

Crochet Pumpkin (Free Pattern)

  • 1. with 6mm hook and two strands of double knit yarn held together, ch16, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each st across to end
  • 2-30. ch1, turn, working in back loops only, sc in st at base of ch and each st across to end (15)
  • 31. ch1, turn, fold in half to form a tube, then slst both short edges together to join
  • 32. bind off, leaving a long tail then gather the bottom edge, using your hook or a yarn needle, knot and weave in ends then turn right sides out
  • 33. fill with stuffing, then attach a long tail of yarn to the top and gather the top edge, adding the cinnamon stick into the stuffing before tightly closing off, bind off and weave in ends

I hope you enjoy this free pattern. I would love to see if you make one so please feel free to share your pictures in my Facebook group, or tag me on social media (@adeleuyancrochet) so I can see.

Crochet Plant Holder (Free Pattern)

I made this little plant holder out of cotton yarn to brighten up a bare corner of my living room and I love how it turned out. It looks so cute and worked up so quickly. I thought it would make a lovely gift aswell, so after making one for myself, I made a few more for family and friends who love plants as much as me. I think it would look even better with a trailing plant.

This plant holder should fit a 3-4″ pot. The pot I used was 3″ diameter on the bottom, 4″ diameter on the top and 3″ height. I would not recommend using a pot any taller than this without adding more height rows to the pattern, as the plant holder fits this size of pot perfectly.

To make your own plant holder, you will need cotton DK in the colour of your choice, I used white to match my living room, a 4.5mm crochet hook, a tape measure, a stitch marker, scissors and a yarn needle. You can easily make the plant holder bigger by using a bigger hook or thicker yarn, if you need to, or adding more height rows. At the end of round 3, the base of your plant holder should measure the same or just slightly smaller than the base of your pot.

Easter Basket (Free Crochet Pattern)

When my girls were little, I made them a crochet basket one year, as one of their Easter gifts. The basket was well loved over the years, but was eventually given away as they got older. I decided to make another crochet basket this year, after a request for the pattern.

To make your own crochet basket, you will need double knit or aran yarn, a 5mm crochet hook, a pair of scissors and a yarn needle. The pattern is suitable for beginners and is written using American terminology. This basket is approximately 5” wide, which makes it the perfect size for stuffing with craft supplies, small toys or sweets to give as a cute gift.

Child’s Bow Tie (Free Crochet Pattern)

We have a family party coming up this month and I wanted to make my son a little bow tie to wear over his shirt, to make him look a little smarter. I adore the bow tie and shirt trend, especially on children, so this is definitely not a new look for him. He has several different colours of bow tie but none that matched with the specific shirt I wanted him to wear. As I was making the bow tie, I decided to write the pattern down for you all so you could make your own if you wanted to.

To make your own child’s crochet bow tie, you will need a 4mm hook, double knit or light worsted yarn and a small button. This size of bow tie fits my 4 year old son well. It can easily be made to fit smaller or larger children, by adding or removing rows from the neck strap. This pattern is written using American terminology.

Child’s Bow Tie (Free Crochet Pattern)

Bow:

1. ch8, dc in 3rd chain from hook and across (6)

2-16. ch2, turn, dc in same stitch as chain and across (6)

17. ch1, fold in half, sc around, working through both edges to close, join with slst in top of 1st sc, bind off and weave in ends

Neck Strap:

1. ch5, dc in 3rd chain from hook and across (3)

2-26. ch2, turn, dc in same stitch as chain and across (3)

27. ch1, turn, sc in same stitch as chain, ch1, skip 1 stitch, sc in last stitch

28. ch1, turn, sc in same stitch as chain, sc in chain space, sc in last stitch, bind off and weave in ends (3)

Bow Centre:

1. ch5, dc in 3rd chain from hook and across (3)

2-4. ch2, turn, dc in same stitch as chain and across (3)

5. bind off, leaving a long tail to join

Finishing:

1. take the main bow piece and gather the very centre with a piece of matching yarn, tie it off tightly to give the bow a nice shape and weave the ends in

2. lay the gathered bow on top of the neck strap and cover with the bow centre, stitch the two pieces of bow centre together, using the long tail that you left, with the bow and neck strap neatly inside, bind off and weave in ends

3. attach a small button to the end of the neck strap without the buttonhole

I hope you like this free pattern. Please do let me know if you do make one of your own so I can see it. You can tag me on social media (@adeleuyancrochet) or why not join our Facebook group so we can all see!

Toddler Hoodie (Crochet Pattern)

I released my Baby Bear Hoodie pattern a few months ago, and since then I have been working on a toddler version of that pattern. As I am a perfectionist and currently test all of my patterns myself, this has taken me longer than I would care to admit. I have had quite a few requests for larger sizes and I am delighted to now be able to say that I have finally finished the Toddler Bear Hoodie pattern! This pattern is for sizes 1-2y, 2-3y and 3-4y, or from around 20″-22″ chest. The pattern has been made with around 5″ of ease included, to allow for layering. The hoodie can be made without the bear ears, but I think they add an extra touch of cute.

The hoodie is made using two strands of double knit yarn held together throughout, with 5mm and 6mm crochet hooks. The pattern is easy to follow and is suitable for beginners, although basic knowledge of crochet is needed. I have written the pattern using US terminology.

You can find the toddler hoodie pattern in my Etsy shop, alongside my other PDF patterns and a few things I have crocheted and are ready made for sale. The baby sized version of this pattern is available here, and for a combined pattern to fit from newborn to 4 years, click here. Headband Earwarmer (Free Crochet Pattern)

This is another one of those patterns that I have made many of over the years. Headband earwarmers work up really quickly and look very cute. I think the thing I love the most is that they can be worn over a ponytail. That is something I have struggled with in the past, keeping the girls ears warm when they want to wear their hair up. They don’t like wearing a hat over their ponytail and to be fair, it does look pretty uncomfortable so I can see why they wouldn’t like it. This was our compromise. They get their ponytails and I get to cover their ears so I know they are warm ❤

To make your own headband earwarmer, you will need a 5mm crochet hook and double knit yarn in the colour of your choice. I let my girls choose their favourite colours, so I know there will be no fighting over wearing them. You will also need a tape measure, a pair of scissors and a yarn needle.

This pattern should fit an age 6-10 years or up to about a 21″ head. The finished earwarmer should measure approximately 17.25″ in unstretched length and 3.25″ width.

Crochet Headband Earwarmer (Free Pattern)

Main:

1. ch17, hdc in 3rd chain from hook and across (15)

2-41. ch2, working in back loops only, hdc in stitch at base of chain and each stitch across (15)

42. join the two short ends together with slip stitch, to form a tube

43. bind off and weave in all ends

Flower:

1. make a magic loop, ch2, work 16 dcs into loop, join with slst in top of 1st dc, pull centre tail to tighten (16)

2. ch1, do not turn, sc in same st, *ch4, sk 1st, sc in next st*, rep *-* until last st, ch4, join with slst in top of 1st sc

3. ch1, do not turn, *work sc, hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, sc, all into one chain space*, rep *-* around, join with a slst in top of 1st sc, bind off

4. rejoin yarn in one of the skipped stitches on round 2, ch1, sc in same st, *ch3, sc in next skipped stitch*, rep from *-* around, ch3, join with slst in top of 1st sc

5. ch1, do not turn, *work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, all into one chain space*, rep *-* around, join with slst in top of 1st sc, bind off

6. make a magic loop, ch1, *sc into loop, ch4*, rep *-* seven more times, join with slst in top of 1st sc

7. ch1, do not turn, *work sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, all into one chain space*, rep *-* around, join with a slst in top of 1st sc, bind off

8. using the centre tail of the smaller flower, layer and stitch the small flower on top of the larger flower

9. stitch the flower onto the headband earwarmer and weave in all ends

I hope you find this free pattern useful and make a headband earwarmer of your own. Please let me know if you do make one so I can see your amazing work. You can tag me on social media (@adeleuyancrochet) or better still why not join our Facebook group so we can all see!

Things I Made in August (Roundup)

This month I have been doing a lot of admin, so I haven’t had as much time to crochet as I would’ve liked. I still managed to make lots of cute things though, most of which are up for sale in my Etsy shop.

The first thing I made in August were these very cute baby sandals. I made them for a PDF pattern that I was designing. Both the PDF pattern and the finished sandals are available in my Etsy shop.

I also made some baby booties in three different colours, blue, lilac and beige. I love that these baby booties are so cute and gender neutral. The pattern can be found on my blog and the finished booties can be found on my Etsy shop.

I made lots of earsavers, for use with face masks. I love them because face masks leave me with really sore ears. I gave some to family and friends, and listed some in my Etsy shop. The pattern I used is my own, and is on my blog.

The last things I made in August were varying sizes of baby hoodies, with very cute baby bear ears, for a PDF pattern. The PDF pattern and the finished hoodies can be found in my Etsy shop.

Why not head over to my Facebook group and show us what you have been working on this month. We would love to see it.
